Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and gamers have discovered numerous engaging indie games. However, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Titled Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game includes a protagonist that is literally a piece of poop attempting to travel to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: press a single jump button. Across 150 challenges, encounter boss fights and unlock a store to acquire outfits for your dung hero.
Execute your movements precisely, as a mistake means starting over. Jump on bubbles to propel your character upward, navigate disappearing ledges, and interact with triggers to open secret routes. Collect UN-KOINS to purchase challenging levels in which things intensifies.
Graphically, the demo boasts vibrant environments and an amazing music score. The simple art of shifting geometric shapes could recall fans of old favorites like Earthbound.
While it's tough to think of previous releases where you are a dung character, interactive entertainment frequently featured scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can create explosives from character droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use dung as plant food. And of course, fecal references appears extensively in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its silly concept, Unko Technica has already earned impressive accolades, including winning at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is available at present on Steam, with the full game planned to debut on PC in the fall.
